Each October, schools and communities across the country recognize National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a time dedicated to raising awareness, promoting kindness, and strengthening safe and supportive learning environments for all students.
Bullying can impact students not only at school but also at home and in the community. Research shows that nearly 1 in 5 students report being bullied. By working together, we can teach empathy, encourage positive behavior and create a culture where everyone feels safe and supported.
Parents play an important role in bullying prevention. Here are a few ways to support children at home:
- Talk openly about kindness and respect.
- Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult if they ever feel unsafe.
- Model positive behavior—small acts of kindness go a long way.
- Visit PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center or StopBullying.gov for family resources.
By uniting as a school community, we can build a positive environment where all students thrive. Let’s make this October a month that celebrates respect, kindness and the power of standing together.
