Cottage Grove has added a new Multimedia Club this school year. This club is creating opportunities for students to learn video production skills, including how to operate cameras, lighting equipment and video production software. In addition, students learn audio production, write scripts and use general computer skills.
Cottage Grove has invested in a good collection of starter materials for the club, such as high-quality camcorders, microphones, GoPro cameras, drone cameras, green screens, studio lighting and some powerful laptop computers that can handle video editing and large amounts of data. Members are encouraged to be creative with their own ideas and small projects. The main focus of the club has been to create short videos for PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) that highlight character values. These videos are shown in classrooms to help students understand schoolwide behavior expectations.
Eighth grade student Estaicie Gonzales commented, “Multimedia Club has taught me video editing skills and how to professionally use a camera. I would like to pursue this interest in high school.”
The club is available to seventh and eighth grade students. Its productions will involve students of all ages from both schools.
Eighth grade student Silvio Hughes shared, “The Multimedia Club has been a great experience for me. It has helped me greatly with my experience in technology.”
