Response to Intervention
What Is RtI?
RtI is a tiered process of intervention that requires schools to identify struggling students during the early school years and provide appropriate instructional and behavioral interventions. RtI is designed to provide high-quality instruction and intervention strategies matched to student needs.
District 169 and RtI
The district’s Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) programs are implemented under the department of Pupil Personnel Services. Programs and strategies of RtI and PBIS are utilized in conjunction with regular education services. Students are identified and provided interventions based on several criterion.
Schools in District 169 utilizes PBIS strategies to manage and improve student behaviors that do not lend themselves to positive results. PBIS promotes positive behavior through a system of incentives and interventions. Faculty members from both Medgar Evers Primary Academic Center and Cottage Grove Upper Grade Center have received training in the facilitation of the PBIS model. Easy to remember principles set the tone for expected behavior. The principles: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be A Leader, serve as the driving tenets of student behavior. The overall goal of PBIS is to minimize behavioral disruptions and maximize the teaching and learning experience for all stakeholders.
