We are excited about welcoming in a new decade along with a new era for Cottage Grove Upper Grade Center. The administration, faculty and staff of Cottage Grove begin this new decade by recommitting ourselves to the success of each of our students. Though the 2009 - 2010 school year is rapidly passing, we believe that this is the year for our AYP success. We know that with the continued support of our parents and cooperation of our students, we are almost there.

As we are returning from our winter break, we are keeping in mind that ISAT Testing is just a few weeks away. We will be intensifying our efforts to teach new skills as we work to strengthen skills that were taught earlier in the year. We will be placing greater emphasis on our two major areas of testing - reading and math. Please do not become alarmed if your son or daughter begins to talk about all of the work that is going on in these areas.

We are striving to meet the State of Illinois AYP goal of 77.5%. Teachers and students will be working diligently to improve test taking skills and mastery of reading and math skills and strategies. We will continue our practice of reading in every subject area and building vocabulary through our "word of the day".

We ask that parents assist us by doing the following:

1. Make certain that children are in attendance and punctual daily.

2. Check and sign homework assignments.

3. Send children to school in designated school uniform.

4. Encourage your son and daughter to refrain from creating disruptions in the learning process.

5. Emphasize to your son or daughter the importance of reading books for the 25 Book Campaign.

Every day of school is important, therefore, again we remind our students that they must arrive, daily, focused on practicing our guiding principles:

Be Respectful                                    Be Responsible                                   Be Safe                                             Be a Leader
