"SERVING CHILDREN FIRST"

Response To Intervention

What Is RTI?

RTI is a tiered process of instruction that allows schools to identify struggling students early and provide appropriate instructional interventions.

RTI and District 169

The district's Response To Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports(PBIS) programs are initiatives designed to assist in the provision of early intervention for students who are experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.  These programs work in conjunction with regular education services and are administered by district faculty and are monitored by the PPS department.  The educational programs of the district are interwoven so that students gain the best educational benefits.  To access the programs and services supported by the PPS depatment, contact your building principal.

PBIS
District 169 began incorporating PBIS strategies into its educational program in the fall  of 2008.  The program was introduced to the students and staff in both schools with a kick-off program which outlined and defined the major components of the program.  Prior to beginning the program faculty members from both Medgar Evers School and Cottage Grove UGC attended training sessions which prepared them to serve as leaders for the program.  During the planning stages of the program, the team identified easy to remember principles of behavior for the students:  Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be A Leader.  These guiding principles were introduced during the program kick-off and are regularly reinforced during the school year.  The overall goal of PBIS is to minimize behavioral disruptions and maximize the teaching and learning experience for all stakeholders.
