PROMOTION AND RETENTION

The following criteria will be used  when promoting or retaining a student:

1. Successful Completion and Mastery of Course Work
The course work includes daily work, class participation, completion of oral and written assignments and projects and local assessments. The student's success must be supported through the use of the student's work portfolio or folder. Please refer to Grading and Evaluation of Students.

2. Overall Performance on Standardized Tests
Tests results must reflect a minimum of nine (9) months growth over the prior year in all areas but particularly in Reading, Vocabulary, Language Arts and Math .

3. School Attendance
Attendance must reflect a minimum of 158 days out of 176 days of the school year, unless an emergency situation occurs as documented by a doctor's statement.

The teacher must recommend the promotion or retention of all students based on local assessments, standardized testing and teacher evaluation of the student'S readiness for the next grade level. The student must meet at least two (2) of the three (3) criteria for promotion as indicated above.
